Cause of Fire at Derelict St. Augustine Lane Building Under Investigation

Shortly before 4:15 this morning, Wednesday 31st March, 2021, police were dispatched to a report of a fire at a derelict two storey building on St. Augustine Lane, Pembroke.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

However, following an initial assessment, with no electricity supply to the premises, the cause is being considered suspicious.

There is nothing to indicate this is linked to the recent spate of fires in the Pembroke area, but that possibility has not been ruled out.

There have so far been no reported injuries as a result of this incident.

22-Year-Old Man Shot & Injured Near Somers Garden, St. George’s [Updated]

Around 2:45pm today (Tuesday, March 30th) a firearm incident occurred near Somers Garden in St. George’s.

A 22-year-old Pembroke man was shot multiple times about his body. Apparently he was working in the area at the time he was shot.

The 22-year-old man was transported by private vehicle to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries, which at this time are not believed to be life threatening.

The suspects are described as two men on a dark coloured motorcycle without a licence plate. The rider was wearing a white helmet, while the pillion passenger was described as light brown complexioned with a thick moustache, wearing a black helmet and colourful jacket.

Jahmico Trott Found Guilty of Attempted Murder in Supreme Court

Today, a Supreme Court jury found the defendant Jahmico Trott guilty of:

1.      Attempted Murder

2.      Carrying a Firearm to Commit an Indictable Offence

3.      Using a Firearm to Commit an Indictable Offence

4.      Intimidating a Witness

COVID-19 Breaches: Revised Process to Ensure Cases in Court Promptly

Assistant Commissioner of Police Martin Weekes – “The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has recently undertaken a review of persons addressed for COVID regulation breaches following delays in cases appearing before the courts.

A revised process has now been introduced by the BPS directly supervised by a Senior Officer to ensure that files presented to the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) contain all evidence to address potential not guilty or guilty pleas by defendants.

Two Teens Hurt, One Seriously, in Single Vehicle Car Crash

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Monday 29th March, 2021, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a motorcar, near the junction of Knapton Hill and Idle Acres Road, Smith’s Parish. 

Upon arrival, officers discovered two of the four occupants, both males, aged 16 and 17, were injured in the collision.

The 16-year-old, who was unresponsive, remained trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by personnel from Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

Both injured parties were transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to their injuries.

At last check, the 16-year-old remained unresponsive and is warded in the hospital’s intensive care unit. The seventeen-year-old was attended to for a leg injury and discharged.

The driver of the vehicle, which was extensively damaged, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired, but subsequently passed the breath test.

Man Arrested in Connection With Immigration Matter

Around 5:30 p.m. today, Sunday 28th March 2021 an individual being sought in connection with an immigration matter was arrested after he was seen in the Parson’s Road, Pembroke, area.

He was handed over to the Department of Corrections and transported to the West Gate Correctional Facility.

It is anticipated he will appear before the Courts tomorrow, Monday 29th March, 2021.

Motorcycle & Car Collide in Warwick, Rider Injured

Around 12:00 noon today, Sunday 28th March, 2021, police received reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a motorcycle near the junction of Middle Road and Morgan Road, Warwick.

The male motorcyclist sustained head and facial injuries and was left semi-conscious when the bike he was riding in an easterly direction collided with the car which was headed west.

The female driver of the car was uninjured.

Both vehicles were extensively damaged.

Emergency Medical Services personnel attended the scene and transported the motorcyclist to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, for further treatment to his injuries, which were described as serious.

Inquiries Into Hit & Run Involving Two Motorcycles in Devonshire

Around 9:25pm Wednesday, March 24th a two motorcycle collision occurred near the junction of Palmetto Road and Roberts Avenue in Devonshire.

Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel responded to the scene.

It appears that a 58-year-old male was riding a black motorcycle east on Palmetto Road with a 44-year-old male passenger and an unknown motorcyclist with an unknown passenger was traveling in the opposite direction along Palmetto Road when the unknown motorcyclist overtook a car and struck the side of the eastbound motorcycle causing all four individuals – along with both motorcycles – to fall onto the road.

Appeal for Information Regarding Suspicious Fire in Pembroke

Shortly before 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday 23rd March, 2021, police responded to a report of a suspicious fire at a residence on Peat Lane in Pembroke.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service personnel, who explained the fire was contained in the pump room of the residence and extinguished.

A fuel canister containing gasoline was found at the back of the residence.

A partly burnt bag and a gas canister cap were also recovered at the scene.

Addressing the situation, Detective Superintendent Nicholas Pedro stated: "A team of officers has been investigating a recent spike in the number of fires in & around the central Pembroke area in recent weeks.

These events are not currently known to be linked, but we are examining this possibility.

The setting of fires around occupied structures places lives at risk, damages property, and is of serious concern to the Bermuda Police Service.

BPS Aware of Upcoming Peaceful Protest Re: COVID-19 Regulations

The Bermuda Police Service, (BPS) is aware of a WhatsApp message circulating, inviting members of the community to attend a peaceful protest on the grounds of the Cabinet Office, starting at 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday 24th March, this coming Wednesday.

Addressing the situation, Martin Weekes, Assistant Commissioner of Police said: “The BPS supports peaceful legal protest, as evidenced by the policing of other large scale marches in the last few years including the Black Lives Matter March last year.

However, we wish to remind the public that the newly announced COVID regulations enacted this past weekend, stipulates that the curfew now commences at 11:00pm to 5am.
