Confirmed Firearms Incident
Residents of the Ord Road and Cobbs Hill areas of Paget contacted police and reported hearing several gunshots just before 12:18 a.m. today, Monday 11th July, 2022.
Officers attended and conducted searches of the locations and recovered forensic evidence to confirm a firearm had been discharged.
However, there were no reports of anyone being injured at the scene of the incident. Checks made at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital indicated no one arrived at that location seeking treatment for any firearms related injuries.
Officers returned to the scene today to continue their inquiries into this confirmed firearms incident.
Road Traffic Collision Hermitage Road, Devonshire
Police are investigating a two vehicle road traffic collision which took place on Hermitage Road near the junction with Devon Spring Road, Devinshire, around 4:48a.m. on Sunday 10th July, 2022.
A 74-year-old male motorcycle rider was travelling south along Hermitage Road, when a 23-year-old male riding a motorcycle north along the same road, entered the opposing lane and collided with the 74-year old male.
Both riders were injured in the collision.
The elder of the two was at one point listed in critical condition with what were thought to be serious internal injuries. However, at last check his condition was upgraded and he was receiving treatment on a general ward.
The 23-year-old male who was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired, suffered facial and other injuries, none of which were considered serious.
Road Traffic Collision Middle Road, Devonshire
A 22-year-old woman was injured in a two vehicle collision which took place around 12:45 a.m. on Saturday 9th July 2022 on Middle Road, Devonshire.
The woman was traveling east along Middle Road, Devonshire when she reportedly overtook two vehicles near the junction with Chaingate Hill and collided with a motorcar travelling in the opposite direction.
She sustained a fractured right leg and lacerations to her body. Her injuries were not considered to be life threatening.
Assault on Police
In keeping with Operation Vega, police officers were conducting road traffic checks on Southside Road, St, David's, around 12:40 a.m. Friday, July 8th 2022, when they attempted to stop the rider of a motorcycle clocked at a speed of 67 km/h.
The male motorcycle rider refused to stop and a chase ensued. Officers lost sight of the suspect upon reaching Chapel of Ease Road.
An area search was conducted and the subject was found hiding on his bike behind a wall.
The rider attempted to evade police by driving at the officers, one of whom sustained injuries to his arms and legs.
The suspect who was subsequently arrested, was found to be under age and riding a motorcycle, which following checks, was found to have previously been reported as stolen and was fitted with fraudulent license plates.

Introduced Tuesday 6th July 2021, Operation Vega continues to focus on the extent of undesirable riding and driving behaviours on Bermuda’s roads.
In just over one year, 6,030 tickets for various traffic offences have been issued.
More recently in a four week period from 21st June until 11th July 2022, 444 tickets have been issued, for a variety of traffic infractions. In addition, 50 warnings were issued.

The fourth quarter of 2021 showed a reduction in reported collisions compared with the fourth quarter of 2020, while the first quarter of 2022 saw a reduction in reported collisions compared to the first quarter of 2021. However, the second quarter of 2022 saw reported collisions edge up slightly from the second quarter of 2021.

Acting Superintendent Robert Cardwell (Tactical Support Division) explained, “We feel that Operation Vega is having an impact on collisions, as we have seen collision rates a lot higher than they have been of recent.
Stopping those who are out there committing blatant traffic offences and ensuring they are being held accountable is the way forward and the Bermuda Police Service is committed to making this happen.
Many collisions are attributable to human error and bad judgement. We can continue to see decreases in collisions by continuing to encourage everyone to take their manner of driving or riding seriously and apply all measures of safety available to you.”
Acting Detective Inspector (ADI) Jason Smith - “Today the 9th July 2022, is the tenth year anniversary that Rudy Smith (pictured) went missing. Rudy was reported
missing by family and friends 9th July 2012, and at that time his disappearance was suspicious and a police investigation commenced. As a result of those initial police investigations, Rudy Smith’s disappearance became a murder investigation and police lines of enquiry were now centred on that. Today, this murder investigation remains active and police have identified a number of persons of interest to this inquiry.
During the course of this investigation it is believed that there were a number of people directly involved in Rudy Smith’s murder. There are also a number of persons that witnessed activities in and around the Parsons Road, Deep Dale area that can assist the Bermuda Police Service in bringing closure to Rudy’s family and people to justice. Around 7:20 p.m. on Monday 4th July, 2022, police received a report of a stabbing incident outside D and C Grill, on Harrington Sound Road, Smith’s Parish.
Upon arrival officers found a seventeen-year-old male who was reportedly involved in an altercation with another male.
The seventeen year old is said to have sustained non-life threatening stab wounds during the incident.
He was attended to at the scene by EMTs and transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to his injuries.
The suspect is described as a light brown complexioned male, approximately 5’ 7” in height and of average build.
He wore a black bubble jacket, black long pants and a black helmet.
He made good his escape by running in a westerly direction along Harrington Sound Road and it is believed he may have left the area on a motorcycle which was parked nearby.
The roadway was closed off while the scene was forensically processed with traffic diverted along South Road.

The Bermuda Police Service is once again appealing to the public not to share videos that show Flatts murder victim 19-year-old Letrae Doeman at the scene shortly after the teen was shot multiple times.
Detectives continue to progress this murder investigation and appreciate all assistance received so far. At last check the four men arrested in connection with this fatal shooting, that also left a 20-year-old man injured, remained in police custody.
Members of the public with knowledge of the 19-year-old’s movements prior to his murder – from Thursday night, 30th June until around 1:10am Friday, 1st July 2022 – are urged to get in contact with the investigative team.

Around 10:25 pm on Saturday, 2nd July, 2022, officers were dispatched to a report of a serious road traffic collision involving a single vehicle near the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ) on North Shore Road, Flatts Village.
Reports are a 24-year-old male was riding a motorcycle east on North Shore Road, when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and collided with a wall just east of BAMZ.
He was taken by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where at last check, he was in the Intensive Care Unit receiving treatment for possibly serious head injuries.
Traffic had to be diverted along Harrington Sound Road while the scene of the collision was processed by the Forensics Unit along with Traffic Collision Investigators.
Meanwhile, around 5:11 a.m. today, Monday 4th July, 2022, police were called out to a single vehicle collision on the Middle Road, Flatts Village, near the junction with Harrington Sound Road.
It appears the driver of a mini-bus lost control of the vehicle and collided with a wall adjacent to Rustico’s restaurant on the Brightside Apartments property.
There were no reported injuries.
There were traffic delays while a crane was used to remove the vehicle which had toppled onto its side

Shortly before 9:10 p.m. on Sunday 3rd July, 2022, police received a call reporting a stabbing incident, said to have taken place aboard a private boat. Officers along with ambulance personnel were dispatched to the Rockaway Ferry Dock, where the victim, a 26-yearold male, was brought ashore.
He was immediately transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was attended to for multiple stab wounds.
His injuries are described as non-life threatening.

On Wednesday, 29th June 2022, police officers of the Tactical Operations Division executed a drug warrant at a residence on Mount Hill Road, Pembroke, in response to reported drug dealing.
During the operation, led by the Gang Targeting Unit, a quantity of controlled drugs, money and drug equipment were seized. Three men were arrested at the residence, in connection with this matter.

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of a video circulating, showing the Flatts murder victim at the scene, prior to police arrival.
We are urging members of the community to be sensitive toward the victim’s family and not continue to share it.

Monday, 4th July: Renewed appeal regarding not sharing videos of Flatts murder victim 19-year-old Letrae Doeman.
Around 1:12 a.m. on Friday, July 1st 2022, police received several reports of gunshots heard in the area of Paradise Lane and Middle Road, Flatts Village, Smith’s Parish.
Upon arrival officers found an unresponsive male with multiple gunshot wounds about the body. Officers commenced life-saving measures on the victim until the arrival of EMTs who continued emergency medical treatment.
He was subsequently transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
While officers were at the hospital a second male arrived seeking treatment for a gunshot wound to his arm.
Both men were reportedly traveling west on a motorcycle, when the suspects who were said to have been traveling in the same direction, also on a motorcycle, began shooting at them.
The scene was processed by forensics officers and a number of spent shells were recovered.
Police are asking anyone who may have been traveling through Flatts Village at the time of the incident and may have seen any suspicious activity to please contact Acting Detective Sergeant, Anneka Donawa of the Serious Crimes Unit, on 295-0011.
