Collision: Cedar Avenue & Dundonald Street Junction, Pedal Cyclist Hurt

Around 11:30am on Monday 27th February, 2023, emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a serious collision at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Dundonald Street, City of Hamilton involving a car and a pedal cyclist.
On arrival at the scene it was ascertained that a man driving the motorcar was headed east along Dundonald Street, crossing the junction with Cedar Avenue, when it is believed that a man riding a pedal cycle south on Cedar Avenue ran a red light and collided with the motorcar.
The pedal cyclist was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and is being treated for head injuries. The driver of the car, was not reported to be injured.
A portion of the road between Brunswick Street and Cedar Avenue is closed, while traffic accident investigators process the scene.

Shortly after 9pm on Saturday 25th February 2023, police and other first responders were dispatched to a serious two vehicle collision on western side of Scaur Hill, Sandys.
Early information suggests a male motorcyclist was traveling east on Scaur Hill, when he was struck by a male on an off-road scrambler which was travelling in the opposite direction, at a high rate of speed. Shortly after the collision the male riding the scrambler fled the scene.
The motorcycle rider was conveyed to King Edward Memorial Hospital, with what was described as a severe leg injury. It is not known if the other male was injured.
Traffic heading east is being diverted over Fort Scaur and westbound traffic is being diverted through the railway trail at the entrance to Lantana.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision or anyone who may have seen an off-road scrambler in the area around the time of the collision, to contact PC Rajiv Bailey on 211 or rbailey@bps.bm.
Three Vehicle Collision on South Road in Warwick

Around 1:45pm on Friday 24th February 2023, police and other emergency services were dispatched to the scene of a three vehicle collision involving an intermediate truck, a water truck and a motorcar, at the junction of Middle Road and Spring Hill Road, Warwick.
Initial information suggests that the two trucks both headed in opposite directions collided, causing the truck headed east to cross into the westbound lane and collide with a motorcar which was traveling west.
The drivers of the intermediate truck and the motorcar, both female, have been transported to King Edward VII Memorial for treatment of injuries, the extent of which is not known at this time.
The male driver of the water truck was not reported to be injured.
The collision has left the road completely impassable.
Traffic diversions have been put in place at Middle Road with the junctions of Morgan’s Road and Cobbs Hill Road until the vehicles are removed from the scene.

Road Traffic Collision: 50-Year-Old Rider's Cause of Death to be Determined

Shortly before 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023, police and other first responders were dispatched to a two vehicle road traffic collision involving a taxi and a motorcycle on South Road, Warwick, near the junction with Tribe Road number two.
The motorcycle rider, a 50-year-old male, was reportedly found unresponsive, lying face-down on the roadway.
He was immediately transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
The taxi was headed west when the motorcycle rider who was traveling east, reportedly drifted into the westbound lane and collided with the front of the taxi.
There are reports the victim appeared to have experienced a medical episode before crossing lanes and becoming involved in the collision.
The outcome of the investigation into this collision, as well as the results of an autopsy, will have to be received before a determination can be made as to whether or not, this marks the 4th road fatality of the year.

Road Sobriety Checkpoints in Effect 23rd Through 26th February 2023

Motorists are advised that the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) will be conducting road sobriety checkpoints in 7 parishes (Hamilton parish, Smith’s parish, Devonshire, Pembroke, Paget, Warwick & Southampton) starting this Thursday evening, 23rd February through Sunday, 26th February 2023.
BPS officers from the Community Policing Division, Tactical Operations and Roads Policing Unit will operate the checkpoints, which are in addition to general patrol officers enforcing Operation Vega.
Please plan ahead and do your part by not driving or riding impaired. If you are intending to go out and socialise, make sure you have arranged for a designated driver, taxi or another responsible transportation service to get you to your destination safely.
Third Road Fatality of 2023: 50-Year-Old Arnold Astwood

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the identity of the victim in that fatal road traffic collision which occurred round 9:45pm on Monday, 20th February, 2023, on South Road, just west of Horseshoe Road, Southampton, as 50-year-old Arnold Astwood.
Mr. Astwood was riding a traveling west along South Road, when he was involved in a single vehicle collision.
While being attended to by members of the public, Mr. Astwood was struck by a truck which was also headed west and left the scene.
He was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.
A 51-year-old-male has been arrested and is assisting police with their inquiries into this matter.

Third Road Fatality of 2023 [Updated]

Around 9:45pm on Monday 20th February, police and other first responders were dispatched to a report of a serious collision on South Road, just west of Horseshoe Road Southampton.
Initial information suggests that a 50-year-old male on a motorcycle was traveling west along South Road when he was involved in a single vehicle collision.
Whilst he was being attended to by several members of the public, a man driving a truck, also headed west, struck the injured male.
The injured male was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where unfortunately he succumbed to his injuries. This marks the third road fatality of 2023.
No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified.
Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact 211.

Second Suspect Arrested: Kyari Flood Murder Investigation

A second suspect wanted in relation to the murder of Kyari Flood was arrested at approximately 11:00 a.m. today, Thursday, February 16th, 2023.
The 19-year-old male was arrested when officers executed a firearms warrant at a Dundonald Street, Pembroke, residence.
A 20-year-old-man from Devonshire arrested in connection with the investigation into Mr. Flood’s murder, remains in police custody at this time.
Officers from the police Tactical Unit, Armed Response, and Serious Crimes Units were involved in today’s operation.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector, Jason Smith said: “The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public the public for their support with our investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death of Kyari Flood. However, there remains a lot of work to be done and so we are once more appealing for anyone with any information, even if you don’t think it’s important, to please get in contact with us. That bit of information that you have may just be what we need to bring to justice whomever is responsible for Mr. Flood’s death.”

Suspect Arrested in Connection with the Murder of 23-Year-Old Kyari Flood

As the investigation into the murder of 23-year-old Kyari Flood continues, officers from the Community Policing Division have been traversing the Friswells Road community providing reassurance to residents.
Detectives remain keen on hearing from members of the public who may have any information on the circumstances which may have led to Mr. Flood’s lifeless body being found in a secluded area off Border Lane South and Friswell’s Hill around 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 13th, 2023.
A 20-year-old male from Devonshire arrested during a police operation launched following the discovery of Mr. Flood’s body, is assisting police with their enquiries into the murder of Mr. Flood.
Detective Inspector Jason Smith of the Serious Crimes Unit stated: “I wish to thank those members of the public who have so far come forward and provided us with information on this matter. Let me remind you that any information, as insignificant as you may think it to be, could prove valuable to our ongoing investigation. Officers from our Community Policing Division have been out providing reassurance to residents of Friswells Hill and environs. We urge residents to take the opportunity to share with these officers any information or concerns you might have regarding this matter.
Acting Detective Chief Inspector Derricka Burns explained there was no delay in police responding to reports of gunshots heard in the Pembroke area shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Sunday 12th February 2023. “Residents reported hearing shots in the areas of Happy Valley Road, Fentons Drive, Parsons Road and Friswells Hill.
I can confirm that officers attended these areas and spoke to residents who were unable to pinpoint the exact location of the shots. An extensive search was conducted of these areas by police, however, nothing untoward was discovered at that time.
We do believe that Sunday’s gunshot reports and the discovery of the body yesterday are connected.”

Suspected Drugs, Cash & Illegal Dogs Seized, Seven Arrested

On Tuesday 7th February 2023, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) Drugs Unit, assisted by the Criminal Investigations Unit, Financial Crimes Unit and Tactical Division, executed two search warrants at two residences in Devonshire and Smith’s parishes where several packages containing the suspected controlled drugs cocaine and cannabis were seized, with an estimated street value of $30,000 (Bermuda dollars), along with mixed currencies totalling in excess of $85,000.
Seven persons have been arrested in relation to this operation and police also seized a hydroponic system, designed to grow cannabis indoors.
In addition BPS officers, assisted by Animal Wardens, removed four illegal dogs from one of the properties that were searched.
Acting Detective Superintendent Sherwin Joseph, who is in charge of the Crime Division, stated: “This operation has disrupted and dismantled the drug trafficking and money laundering activities of a drug trafficking ring here in Bermuda.
Chemicals used in the illegal grow operation were also seized and will be further analysed by our Government analysts.
The investigation is at a critical stage and no further information will be provided at this time.”
The BPS Drugs Unit will continue investigations.
