Traffic Advisory - The Ministry of Public Works would like to remind motorists that the east-bound traffic lane on South Road, Paget from Point Finger Road to the entrance of Agriculture and Fisheries on South Road will be closed to accommodate trench works being carried out by Island Construction Services for the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital site. This is effective from Monday February 13th, 2012 to Wednesday May 30th, 2012.

February 9 - Daily Report

Collision - Around 1:40pm on Wednesday February 8th, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision on Happy Valley Road in Devonshire. It appears that a car was travelling along Happy Valley Road when it collided with an embankment and overturned. The car was extensively damaged however, the driver, a 55 year old Pembroke woman received minor injuries that apparently did not require hospital treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

February 8 - Daily Report

Collisions - Around 9:30pm on Tuesday February 7th, police responded to a report of a collision on South Road in Paget. It appears that a truck was travelling along South Road near Coral Beach when it went over an embankment. The truck was damaged, however the driver, a 49 year old Devonshire man was not injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Collision - Around 2:30pm on Monday February 6th, police and first responders attended a reported collision on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish between two motorcycles. It appears that both motorcycles were travelling along North Shore Road when they collided near the junction with Coney Island Road. One of the riders, a 20 year old Southampton woman sustained leg injuries. The other rider, a 36 year old Hamilton parish man sustained minor hand injuries. Both motorcycles were extensively damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Van Collides With Wall in Paget

Around 9:20am on Monday, February 6th police and first responders were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Berry Hill Road in Paget. It appears that a van was travelling along Berry Hill Road when it collided with a wall in the area, ending up on its side. The van was damaged as a result; however the driver, a 33 year old Pembroke man and his passenger, a 27 year old Hamilton parish man, sustained minor injuries. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Update: First Road Fatality For 2012

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 48 year old Michael Lancelotta of Rhode Island, U.S.A. Mr. Lancelotta succumbed to injuries sustained after the rental cycle he was riding collided with a water truck around 6pm Sunday, February 5th on Wellington Street in St. George’s in the vicinity of Tiger Bay. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing and police continue to appeal for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Walter Jackson at the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Lancelotta.

February 6 - Daily Report

Impaired Drivers - Around 8pm on Sunday February 5th, police were on mobile patrol along Harbour Road in Warwick when they noticed a car driving erratically near the junction with Warwick Park Road. Officers stopped the car and spoke to the driver who appeared to be intoxicated. The 57 year old Southampton man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and detained in police custody after failing the alco-analyser test. A court appearance is expected in due course.

First Road Fatality For 2012

Around 6pm on Sunday, February 5th police and first responders attended a reported serious collision on Wellington Street in St. George’s in the vicinity of Tiger Bay. It appears that a water truck and a rental cycle were traveling along Wellington Street when the vehicles collided. The rider of the rental cycle, a 48 year old American man, was injured and subsequently succumbed to his injuries. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.

Stolen Statue Recovered - The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating the Desmond Fountain statue ‘On The Ball.’ The sculpture was recovered in the Paget area around 9pm Friday, February 3rd. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing.

Search Warrant Results in Two Arrests on Drug Charges

Officers from the Public Protection Department of the Bermuda Police Service earlier today executed a search warrant at a residence on Broken Hill Lane in Smith’s parish. A significant quantity of cash, suspected controlled drug and other items were seized. Two men, a 22 year old Smith’s parish man and a 32 year old Smith’s parish man were arrested at the scene, on suspicion of possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply. Enquiries are continuing into this incident.
