The vehicles listed below are presently in the Police Impound at Prospect, Devonshire. The owners of these vehicles may claim them by contacting the Police Impound Office, Monday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at telephone number 247-1788.

Hampshire Constabulary Bermuda Special Constables Sworn In

Today, Wednesday January 22nd, officers from Hampshire Constabulary became Special Constables for the Bermuda Police Service, enabling them to effectively investigate serious crimes onboard Bermuda registered vessels in Hampshire ports.

A total of 16 staff from the Hampshire Major Investigation Team – 14 detectives and two police staff investigators – were formally sworn in as Special Constables by Commissioner of the Bermuda Police Service Michael DeSilva, at a ceremony also attended by Hampshire Chief Constable Andy Marsh and Hampshire Police & Crime Commissioner Simon Hayes.

Reported Serious Two Vehicle Collision in Paget

Around 1:45pm on Tuesday, January 21st first responders attended a reported serious two vehicle collision on Point Finger Road in Paget where a rental cycle and a motorcycle collided resulting in injury to both riders.

At last check the male rental cycle rider, a 29 year old American contract worker, was in stable condition at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. The motorcyclist, a 70 year old Devonshire woman, apparently sustained relatively minor injuries.

Sudden Death of Ian McGavern

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 66 year old Ian McGavern.

It appears that Mr. McGavern fell from the dock near the ‘Flag Pole’ along Front Street in the City of Hamilton. A member of the public initially reported the incident.

Around 4:45am Mr. McGavern’s lifeless body was pulled from the waters of Hamilton harbour by first responders who attempted to revive him.

Reported Assault in Southampton

Around 8:45pm on Sunday, January 19th first responders attended a reported assault at a Middle Road, Southampton property.

It appears that the victim, a 53 year old Southampton man, encountered an unknown man on the property who reportedly struck the Southampton resident in the head with a blunt object. The suspect, described as a dark skinned male approximately 6’3” to 6’6” tall wearing a greyish sweater with a hood over his head, then left the area in a dark coloured car.

Reported Serious Motorcycle Collision in Southampton Saturday

Around 3:45am on Saturday, January 18th first responders attended a reported serious single vehicle motorcycle collision on South Road in Southampton near the junction with Lighthouse Road.

It appears that a motorcycle was being ridden along South Road when it collided with a utility pole. The injured rider, a 30 year old Sandys parish man, was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

15 Year Old Robbed of Two Chains

At around 12:40pm on Thursday, a 15 year old male was walking along Cobbs Hill Road in Paget, when he noticed two males on black and purple Nuevo motorcycle with dark purple rims ride across him. Moments later, the cycle turned around and one of the males tried to engage the victim in conversation. The pillion rider then grabbed two chains off of the victim’s neck and the pair then made good their escape.

Police Seeking John O’Connor [Arrested]

Police are seeking the public’s assistance in locating 26 year old John O’Connor who is known to frequent the Eastern and Central Parishes. He is described as a light complexioned male, thin build, approximately 5’8" tall and between 145-160 pounds. O’Connor is wanted by police for an outstanding matter and anyone who knows his whereabouts is encouraged to contact DC Jason Trott on 717-2261.

Update: The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating 26 year old John O'Connor. He has since been arrested.

Man Arrested After Reported Robbery on Bus

Around 10:15pm on Wednesday, January 15th police officers attended a reported robbery that occurred on a bus in the Middle Road, Warwick area.

It appears that an 18 year old male passenger was assaulted by a 22 year old male passenger. During the incident the assailant managed to take the victim’s mobile phone before fleeing on foot up Khyber Pass.

The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards in the surrounding area.

Teenager Arrested After High Speed Chase in Paget

A few minutes after 2pm today several Police Motorcycle Units were involved in a high speed chase from Rural Hill, South Road and it ended on St. Michael's Road in Paget. The rider, a 16 year old male attempted to push a police motorcyclist off his motorcycle, he then failed to stop and eventually dropped his cycle and attempted to flee on foot.

Due to the combination of assistance provided by St. Michael’s Road area residents, a police K9 and additional police units called in to the area the suspect was apprehended and detained.
