Mon, 2014-01-20

Around 8:45pm on Sunday, January 19th first responders attended a reported assault at a Middle Road, Southampton property.

It appears that the victim, a 53 year old Southampton man, encountered an unknown man on the property who reportedly struck the Southampton resident in the head with a blunt object. The suspect, described as a dark skinned male approximately 6’3” to 6’6” tall wearing a greyish sweater with a hood over his head, then left the area in a dark coloured car.

The victim was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was treated for his injury and discharged. Inquiries into this reported assault are ongoing and any witnesses or anyone who may have any relevant information should contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Flight Diversion: Sudden Death

Around 7:15pm on Saturday, January 18th first responders were dispatched to a reported medical emergency at the L.F. Wade International Airport after an American Airlines flight en route from New York to St. Kitts diverted to Bermuda with an unresponsive female passenger.

However despite CPR given by medical personnel onboard the flight and continued by EMTs as the 58 year old St. Kitts native was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance, she was later pronounced dead by an on call doctor at 8:25pm Saturday. Her passing is not considered to be suspicious as the deceased apparently had pre-existing medical conditions which may have contributed to her death.

Weekend Police Activity

Over the weekend, police officers arrested four people on suspicion of impaired driving as the Selective Traffic Enforcement Programme (STEP) continues.

Officers also arrested 13 people for outstanding warrants and conducted liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.
