Fake Bank E-mail - Once again the Bermuda Police Service would like to remind members of the public to remain vigilant regarding phishing e-mails and other scams that attempt to obtain personal information or other sensitive data.

Please be aware that banks or other legitimate financial institutions will never ask you for personal account information such as your password.

Currently a fake e-mail claiming to be from the Bank of Butterfield is encouraging recipients to ‘update their contact e-mail address’ for online banking.

Residents should ignore these unsolicited messages or similar ‘official looking e-mails’ claiming to be from any of the local banks.

Anyone who may have been affected by this scam is encouraged to contact the Financial Crime Unit on 295-0011.

Investigation into ‘Molotov Cocktail’ Incident

Around 11:35pm on Friday, September 9th police received a report of an incident at a Brighton Hill Road, Devonshire residence. It appears that around 11pm that day the occupant heard a loud noise on his roof and went outside to investigate. As a result he discovered a family member on the roof using water to extinguish flames apparently from Molotov cocktails.

Officers attended and searched the surrounding area for any suspects without success but did recover items of interest which are being forensically examined. There were no reported injuries and minimal damage caused to the roof. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Police are encouraging any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.
