Chief Inspector Nicholas Pedro, Officer in Charge of the Serious Crime Unit: Court Appearance of Kofi Omar Dill & Thajya Simons on Gun Charges This Morning - On Wednesday January 5th, 2011 two persons appeared in Hamilton Magistrates' Court to be charged with firearms offences. These charges stem from a Police firearms operation that saw these two persons arrested in the Government Gate area of Pembroke and the recovery of a loaded firearm, on Wednesday 22nd December, 2010.

The persons arrested are a 31 year old male from Pembroke, and a 22 year old female from Sandys parish. The male has been in Police custody following a detention order (without charge) from the Supreme Court pursuant to Section 29A of the Firearms Act 1973 (amended) since the time of his arrest. The female was arrested at the time of the incident and recently re-arrested following receipt of additional evidence.

The appearance in court today of these two persons represents the culmination of two weeks solid work by the Bermuda Police Service, in line with its mission of addressing guns, gangs & violence. The Bermuda Police Service continues to work tirelessly towards “Making Bermuda Safer."

Attempted Robbery – Firearm Recovered

Around 10:45pm on Tuesday, Police responded to a report of an attempted robbery at Belvin's Grocery store in Devonshire. It appears that an unknown male entered the store and brandished what is believed to be a firearm and demanded cash. However the suspect made good his escape empty handed and no one was injured. Subsequently, two men were arrested and are now in Police custody in connection with this matter and a firearm was also recovered. An active Police investigation into this incident is underway.
