December 5 - Weekend Report

Fire - Around 12:30pm on Sunday, Police and Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service personnel attended a fire at a Middle Town Drive, Pembroke residence. The fire was extinguished by firefighters at the scene. There does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances; however a 42 year old Pembroke woman and a 45 year old Pembroke man were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of smoke inhalation. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Robbery

Around 7:30pm on Saturday, Police responded to a report of a robbery at The Dollar Depot in Pembroke. It appears that around 7:25pm that day an unknown man entered the store brandishing a bladed article and demanded money before fleeing the scene with a quantity of cash. An employee working in the store at the time was not injured. The suspect is described as a light skinned black man, approximately 5’5” tall wearing a grey hooded top and dark coloured pants or jeans. He is believed to be 30 – 40 years old. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Marine Incident

Around 12:30pm on Saturday, the Police Marine Unit responded to a report of a vessel in distress. It appears that a sailboat had run aground in the Darrell’s Island, Paget area. Marine Unit officers assisted the crew in securing the vessel and subsequently transported them safely ashore. While securing the vessel one of the Marine Unit officers sustained an ankle injury. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

Sudden Death

Around 5:40am on Saturday, Police and first responders attended a report of a medical emergency at a Union Street, Pembroke residence. A 35 year old Pembroke man was found in an unresponsive state inside the premises. The Pembroke man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance where he was later pronounced dead at 5:53am by an on call physician. Inquiries are underway; however there does not appear to be any suspicious circumstances. No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified.
