The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, November 8th – Monday, November 15th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 21
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 26
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 24
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 5, Smith’s parish = 2, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 9, Paget = 3, Warwick = 1 and Sandys parish = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 24 vehicles reported stolen, 5 were subsequently recovered.

Injury RTC

Around 6:30pm on Monday, Police and first responders attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Granaway Lane involving a truck and a motorcycle. It appears that the truck and the motorcycle were both traveling along Middle Road when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 22 year old Southampton man, was injured. The Southampton man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of his injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening. At last check he was in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit. The truck driver, a 57 year old Sandys parish man, was not injured. The motorcycle was damaged; however the truck was not damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
