The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, November 1st – Monday, November 8th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 27
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 32
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 8
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 24
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 3, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 7, Paget = 3, Warwick = 5, Southampton = 2 and Sandys parish = 2.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 24 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered.

Injury RTC

Around 9:55am on Tuesday, Police responded to a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Middle Road in Warwick near the junction with Tamarind Vale involving a marked Police vehicle and a heavy truck. Details about the collision are unclear at this time; however an officer in the Police Landcruiser was injured. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment and released. The driver of the Police vehicle and the driver of the heavy truck were uninjured. Both vehicles were damaged. Traffic was temporarily diverted on to Harbour Road as a result. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
