The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, September 20th – Monday, September 27th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 17
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 34
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 9
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 20
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 6, Paget = 5, Warwick = 1, Southampton = 3 and Sandys parish = 1. 

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles with 1 SUV also reported stolen during the period. Of the 20 vehicles reported stolen, 3 were subsequently recovered.

Security Breach at L. F. Wade International Airport

At 4:00 am on Tuesday morning, Police responded to the L. F. Wade International Airport where the Airport Security Police reported that a breach of security had occurred. They reported that a man was found in a restricted area without authority. A 31 year old Warwick man was subsequently arrested by police and is now in custody assisting with inquiries. Two American Airlines planes were fully checked and deemed safe for travel. One of those planes has already left the jurisdiction while the other is due to leave Bermuda within the hour. An on-going operation is underway at the airport involving the police, Department of Airport Operations and other agencies to investigate this matter fully.

Advisory - Burglaries

There were 6 reported burglaries on Monday, September 27th; two in Warwick, one in Sandys parish, one in Pembroke, one in Devonshire and one in Smith’s parish. Of those reported burglaries, five were at residential premises and one occurred at a business premises (office) with the culprits removing a quantity of electronics and jewelry. A 52 year old Pembroke man has been arrested in connection with the office burglary.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries. All residents should make sure windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended, even for short periods of time. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals in their neighbourhoods to Police on 295-0011.
