Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 20 year old Geoffrey Burns of Pembroke. At 6am on Wednesday, Police received a report of a serious road traffic collision on Berry Hill Road in Paget near the Botanical Gardens involving two motorcycles. It appears that the motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions on Berry Hill Road when they collided. Mr. Burns sustained serious injuries and was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance; however, he subsequently succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by an on call physician at 7am. The other motorcyclist sustained what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries. He was also taken to hospital via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Derek Simmons on 295-0011. This marks the 8th road fatality for 2010. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Burns.
Reported Firearm Incident
Police received an anonymous report of an unconfirmed firearm incident that took place a few minutes before 1pm on Tuesday. The incident reportedly occurred on Union Street in Pembroke. Officers spoke with area residents and conducted searches in the surrounding areas where the alleged incident took place with negative results. Anyone who may have any information about this incident is encouraged to call the main Police number 295-0011 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.
Advisory – Recent Burglaries
The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the public to remain vigilant regarding burglaries. There were three burglaries in Paget and one burglary in Warwick during the day on Tuesday where electronic items as well as quantities of cash and jewelry were taken. All residents should make sure windows and doors are locked before leaving their homes unattended, even for short periods of time. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or individuals in their neighbourhoods to Police on 295-0011.
Missing Person – Calvin Hansey Sr.
The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 75 year old Calvin Hansey Sr. of Pembroke. Mr. Hansey was last seen at his residence around 7pm on Friday, 27th August 2010 by a family member. He is described as dark skinned, 5’9” tall of slim build and clean shaven. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue boxer shorts. Mr. Hansey is known to walk daily in the area of Montpelier Road, Middle Road and North Shore Road, Devonshire. Anyone who may know the whereabouts of Mr. Calvin Hansey Sr. is encouraged to contact the Vulnerable Persons Unit on 295-0011 as he is a senior citizen in need of medical attention.
