The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, August 2nd – Monday, August 9th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 23
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 23
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 6
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 28
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 2, Hamilton parish = 2, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 16, Warwick = 5 and Southampton = 1.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 2 cars also reported stolen during the period. Of the 28 vehicles reported stolen, 5 were subsequently recovered, including one of the cars.

Witness Appeal - Confirmed Firearm Incident in Devonshire

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the confirmed firearm incident that occurred around 12:05am on Monday at the Mid-Atlantic Boat Club on North Shore Road in Devonshire. The victim, a 21 year old Pembroke man, remains in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and at last check was in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-8115 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477.

Arrest on Court Street

Around 3:30pm on Monday, Police were on Court Street in Pembroke monitoring the area when they observed a man acting in a boisterous manner. This individual was causing a disturbance to others in the area and was spoken to by officers about his behaviour, but he persisted. Additional Police units attended the area as a precaution; however the 35 year old Pembroke man was arrested without incident for breach of the peace. He was taken to Hamilton Police Station, processed and subsequently released.
