The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, July 5th – Monday, July 12th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 27
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 25
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 9
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 11
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Pembroke = 3, Paget = 1, Warwick = 3 and Southampton = 2.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car also reported stolen during the period. Of the 11 vehicles reported stolen, 5 were subsequently recovered.

Witness Appeal - Confirmed Firearm Incident in Pembroke

Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses to a confirmed firearm incident that took place around 10:30pm Monday in the area of Mount Hill and Overview Hill in Pembroke. Upon Police arrival it was ascertained that an unknown male discharged a firearm at a 17 year old Pembroke man; however the teenager was not injured. The suspect then made good his escape. Police are appealing for any witnesses, anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area around the time of the incident or anyone with any information to contact Police on 295-0011 or call the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline at 800-8477.

Burglary

Around 6pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Berkeley Road, Pembroke residence. It appears that sometime during the day an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole two digital cameras. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 4:45pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Mission Lane, Paget residence. It appears that sometime between 7:30am and 11:45am that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
