The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, May 3rd – Monday, May 10th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 25
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 45
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 6
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 7
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 3, Warwick = 1 and Southampton = 1.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 2 cars also reported stolen during the period. Of the 7 vehicles reported stolen, none were subsequently recovered.

Theft

Around 11:20am on Monday, Police received a report of a theft from Universal Electric on Midsea Lane in Pembroke. It appears that sometime between 5:30pm on Saturday and 7:30am on Monday, an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into the property. The culprit(s) stole a quantity of PVC pipe and ‘blue flex’ pipe. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this theft or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Burglary

Around 5:55pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Hidden Valley, St. George’s residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 8:35am and 5:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole two laptop computers and a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
