Update: Sudden Death - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 49 year old Frantisek Kiss. Mr. Kiss was found in an unresponsive state inside a Devon Spring Road, Devonshire residence around 11:35am Friday. He was pronounced dead at 12:45pm that day by an on call physician at the scene. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Kiss. Foul play is not suspected; however an autopsy is anticipated. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing.

Fatal RTC

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 69 year old Derek Smith. Mr. Smith was a pedestrian involved in a road traffic collision with a motorcycle around 6:45pm Monday, January 18th 2010 on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Workmen’s Lane (please see the Weekly Review for January 19th 2010 for further details on the collision at that time). He subsequently succumbed to his injuries around 9am Saturday, April 24th 2010 at KEMH. The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to the family & friends of Mr. Smith. Inquiries into this matter are ongoing.

The death of Derek Smith marks the 5th road fatality for 2010.

Injury RTC

Around 4:45am on Saturday, Police attended a reported serious road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Paget near the junction with St. Paul’s Lane involving two motorcycles. Details about how the collision occurred are unclear at this time; however, it appears that the motorcycles were traveling in opposite directions when they collided. As a result the riders of the motorcycles, a 22 year old Devonshire man and a 28 year old Paget man (Indian national), sustained facial injuries and serious head injuries respectively. Both injured parties were taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment; at last check the 28 year old Paget man was in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit. It is likely that he will be flown overseas for further medical treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision or anyone with any information to contact PC Elihu Holmes on 295-0011.
