The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, March 22nd – Monday, March 29th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 18
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 40
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 9
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Pembroke = 4, Paget = 2, Southampton = 2 and Sandys parish = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 9 vehicles reported stolen, 1 was subsequently recovered.

Burglary

Around 2:35am today, Police received a report of a burglary at a Barnes Valley, Paget residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 8pm Monday and 2:30am Tuesday, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash and a black 32” flat screen TV. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Injury RTC

Around 9:20am today, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Secretary Road in St. George’s near the junction with Secretary Lane involving a garbage truck and a motorcycle. It appears that the motorcycle and the garbage truck were traveling in opposite directions on Secretary Road when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 26 year old Hamilton parish man, sustained injuries to his legs. He was treated by EMTs at the scene before being taken to KEMH via ambulance for further medical treatment. The driver of the garbage truck, a 41 year old Smith’s parish woman, was not injured. The motorcycle received front end damage. The garbage truck was not damaged. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
