January 26 - Weekly Review

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, January 18th – Monday, January 25th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 12
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 30
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 6
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 7
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Pembroke = 2, Southampton = 1 and Sandys parish = 3.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 pedal cycle also reported stolen during the period. Of the 7 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered.

Injury RTC

At 2:40pm on Monday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Crow Lane near the junction with Lane Hill. It appears that a car was traveling along Crow Lane into the City of Hamilton when the driver, an 80 year old Sandys parish man, lost control. As a result the vehicle collided with the wall of Fidelity International. The Sandys parish man was not injured; however his passenger, a 76 year old Sandys parish woman, complained of chest pains. The car received front end damage and the wall was also damaged.

Burglary

Around 12:50pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Turkey Hill, St. George’s residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 10:15am and 12:30pm that day, an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit(s) stole a turquoise blue Dell laptop computer, a black HP tablet computer, a Nintendo Wii video game system, an X-Box video game system, a black Olympus digital camera and a jewelry box containing a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
