January 5 - Weekly Review

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, December 28th 2009 – Monday, January 4th 2010 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 12
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 38
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 9
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 3, Warwick = 2 and Southampton = 1.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 9 vehicles reported stolen, 1 was subsequently recovered.

Damage Only RTC

Around 7:25pm on Monday, Police attended a reported damage only road traffic collision on Parsons Road in Pembroke near the junction with St. Augustine Road involving a motorcycle and a SUV. It appears that the motorcycle was traveling west on Parsons Road and the SUV was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 36 year old Pembroke man and the driver of the SUV, a 45 year old Pembroke woman, were not injured. The motorcycle was extensively damaged while the SUV received extensive front end damage.

Burglary

At 1pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Deepdale Road West, Pembroke residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 8:15am and 12:15pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
