A mother, said to be a 32 year old Paget woman and her son, said to be a 13 year old boy, were attacked by an unknown man at Blue Hole Hill Park Sunday afternoon (June 16th).
Thankfully, neither of them were seriously hurt.
At first it was reported that a girl (daughter) was with the mother and son, but it has since been confirmed that only the 32 year old woman and her teen son were involved in this incident.
It now appears that the mother and son were exploring the park and after walking along a paved path, decided to take a dirt path through trees, which leads to a cave entrance.
As they approached the cave entrance, they encountered an unknown man in the trees.
Apparently the man pushed the 32 year old woman to the ground, brandished a knife and a struggle ensued. The woman’s son came to her aid, but was punched by the man.
However, the woman managed to fight off her assailant, run to the road and flag down a passing motorist, who called 911 around 5:30pm Sunday.
Her son also ran to get help.
The culprit, described as around 40 years old, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall of caramel complexion wearing an olive green camouflage shirt (with sleeves cut off at the shoulder) and similar coloured cargo pants, made good his escape with the woman’s beach bag containing personal items.
The scene has been processed and a search of the Blue Hole Hill Park area by police officers with the assistance of a K9 unit concluded Sunday evening without locating the perpetrator – but efforts to trace his whereabouts continue.
Witnesses, area residents or anyone with information that can assist this investigation are now asked to please call the Criminal Investigation Department on 247-1744 or the independent and anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477 at the earliest opportunity.
Update: Reported Attempted Armed Robbery at Howzat Liquor Store
A Howzat liquor store employee and her 81 year old mother – with the assistance of a second female employee – thwarted a lone male that attempted to rob the North Shore Road, Hamilton parish business around 8:40am Sunday, June 16th.
It now appears that the suspect, described as a black man of slim build, approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall wearing dark coloured clothing and a dark coloured helmet, entered the store brandishing an unknown object covered by a white cloth – which was believed to be a firearm – and demanded money from a 57 year old female employee.
Apparently a struggle ensued between the suspect and the 57 year old woman (said to be a Smith’s parish resident), with her 81 year old mother as well as another female employee – believed to be a 28 year old Warwick woman – quickly coming to the 57 year old female employee’s aid.
As a result, the would-be robber was forced to flee empty-handed on an unknown motorcycle along North Shore Road.
Thankfully, there were no serious injuries reported, with the 57 year old female employee understood to have sustained abrasions to her arms during the struggle.
