Commissioner’s Vision Awards Ceremony This Wednesday

Mon, 2014-11-17

The Bermuda Police Service will be holding the Commissioner’s Vision Awards ceremony at 6pm Wednesday, November 19th in the Berkeley Institute cafetorium.

This inaugural ceremony, sponsored by Bermuda Cablevision, was originally scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 11th during the Police Tattoo. However, an alternate date was identified after the Tattoo was unavoidably cancelled due to the aftermath of Tropical Storm Fay.

The 150 invited student awardees should wear their school uniforms and medals to Wednesday evening’s event. We are also encouraging the students’ families to attend the ceremony.

Remarks will be given by the Commissioner of Police Mr. Michael DeSilva and the CEO of Bermuda Cablevision Mr. Terry Roberson to officially recognize the awardees’ achievement.

If you are the parent or guardian of a Commissioner’s Vision awardee and have any further questions, please contact the Public & Media Relations office on telephone number 247-1776 or via e-mail pmr@bps.bm.

Warwick Collision Results in Minor Injuries to Motorcyclist

Around 5:30pm on Saturday, November 15th first responders were dispatched to a reported collision at the junction of Middle Road and Longford Road in Warwick.

It appears that a motorcycle was being ridden along Middle Road and a car was being driven along the same road when they collided at the junction.

The rider, a 43 year old Devonshire man sustained minor injuries, was treated at the hospital and later discharged. There were no other injuries reported; however temporary traffic delays occurred in the surrounding area.

Both vehicles directly involved were damaged as well as another car traveling immediately behind the collision, which received damage to its windscreen from flying debris.

Inquiries are ongoing and any witnesses should contact Constable Rajiv Bailey at the Somerset Police Station on telephone number 234-1010.

Weekend Police Activity

Over the weekend police officers arrested three people on suspicion of impaired driving as the Selective Traffic Enforcement Programme (STEP) continues.

Officers also arrested 14 people for outstanding warrants and conducted liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.
