The Bermuda Police Service was highly visible both by land and sea yesterday with a high focus at Beach Fest where over 4,000 was estimated to be in attendance. Twelve persons were arrested for various offenses including possession of a controlled drug, invading on the privacy of a female, offensive words, affray, obstruction, and suspicion of wounding.
Officers were on foot patrol on Horseshoe Bay when then received a report of a disturbance involving a large group of men. Officers responded and on arrival saw and spoke to a 17 year old male who was uncooperative with officers and bleeding from a wound to his face. As Officers were escorting him to have medical attention they became aware of the victim, a 19 year old man who was seen with a large deep cut (4") to his face. Officers tried to speak to him to ascertain the circumstances surrounding his injuries and he too was very uncooperative.
After initial inquires officers ascertained that the 17 year old male was the aggressor, he was subsequently arrested on Suspicion of Wounding. Both males were taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. Full details of both men were obtained and the accused who had been drinking was subsequently booked into Hamilton Police Station and detained.
Meantime, officers were continuing their observations on Horseshoe Bay when they were approached by a 32 year old female who states she was volunteering at Beach Fest and assisting with cleaning up. She was using a golf cart to collect trash when she left the vehicle unattended and a male jumped in and drove off at very low speed. The complainant gave chase, caught up to the suspect and pulled him out of the cart. She then alleges that he then pulled down her bikini bottoms. The man was arrested for Invading on the privacy of a female and taken to Hamilton Police Station where he was arrested and detailed.
