Arrest Made After Man Injured During Reported Attempted Robbery

Around 9:30pm on Sunday, September 7th first responders were dispatched to a reported attempted robbery along the Railway Trail in the Spring Hill, Warwick area.

It appears that a 47 year old Warwick man was walking along the Railway Trail when he was accosted by a lone assailant brandishing a bladed article.

The Warwick man was injured and subsequently taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was treated and discharged. A 17 year old Warwick male was later arrested in the surrounding area in connection with this incident.

Inquiries into this reported attempted robbery are ongoing and witnesses, particularly anyone who may have been in the area of Warwick’s Bright Temple AME Church around 9pm Sunday, are encouraged to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit on telephone number 247-1383 or 247-1429.

Two Arrests in Connection With Counterfeit Currency Offences

Two juveniles were arrested on Friday, September 5th in connection with counterfeit currency offences and subsequently released on police bail pending further inquiries.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise businesses and their staff as well as residents to be vigilant regarding counterfeit Bermuda currency, particularly forged $50 and $100 notes, currently in circulation.

If counterfeit cash is detected during a transaction, the person receiving the fake money should hold on to it, note the description of the individual who tendered it and contact police immediately.

The public is reminded that it is a criminal offence to pass to another, possess, make or reproduce any counterfeit currency and those caught doing so can expect to be prosecuted.

Suspicious circumstances regarding suspected counterfeit currency should be reported directly to the main police telephone number 295-0011 or via the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.

Weekend Police Activity

Over the weekend police officers arrested 13 people for outstanding warrants and conducted liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.
