Assistant Commissioner Weekes Excels at Prestigious UK Policing Course

Assistant Police Commissioner, Martin Weekes, returned to Bermuda this week having completed the prestigious Strategic Command Course, (SCC), facilitated by the UK’s College of Policing.

The 2021 SCC, commenced in September and was a full time course with a mix of ‘in person’ and ‘virtual’ learning sessions, due to COVID19 restrictions.

A/Commissioner of Police Darrin Simons said, "The SCC is UK policing’s most senior leadership development programme that brings together Senior Police, Military and Civil Service leaders from the UK and overseas, for learning and leadership development at the highest level."

Mr. Simons continued, “The programme is demanding and requires participants to bring their absolute best. Both the learning and often life long relationships that are developed will pay dividends to the Bermuda Police Service and the wider community for years to come.

On behalf of the service, I congratulate ACOP Weekes on his exceptional performance and look forward to the many contributions he will no doubt make as a result of this training."

Mr. Weekes’ Syndicate Director wrote:
"Martin immersed himself in the whole SCC experience, both from a learning and social perspective. He was instrumental in building the team ethos in the syndicate and brought some fascinating inputs from an overseas perspective which served to enrich the syndicate experience.

Martin has a wealth of experience in policing which served him well on the course. He committed himself to the huge development opportunity provided and I am confident that the Bermuda Police Service will benefit immensely from this."

Mr. Weekes graduated from the course with the highest passing grade of Distinction.

Upon his return to work Mr. Weekes is keenly looking forward to sharing and putting into practice the knowledge he has gained from the course as a member of the BPS Chief Officer Team.
