Witness Appeal: Suspected Assault of 70 Year Old Man [Updated]

At around 11:30 this morning, Wednesday 1st January, 2020, police received an emergency call that a man was seen lying on the sidewalk outside the Washington Mall on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton.

He was reportedly breathing but unresponsive. Upon arrival officers were informed the victim, a seventy year old male had already been conveyed to hospital by ambulance.

He is currently listed in critical condition in the hospital's Intensive Care Unit.

Further enquiries revealed the elderly victim was earlier involved in a verbal altercation with another male who allegedly struck him in the face causing him to fall to the ground.

Police are now seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect. He is described as a black male, between 6ft and 6ft 3in tall and of slim build.

He was dressed in a white long sleeved jacket over a black hoodie, black pants, white socks and black sneakers and carrying a black backpack.

Update: Monday, January 6th - The Bermuda Police Service thanks members of the public who responded to our requests for information regarding the assault on New Year’s Day, of a seventy year-old male outside the Washington Mall on Reid Street in the City of Hamilton.

Thanks to your assistance, a forty year-old male suspect has been arrested, charged and brought before the courts.
