Sussex Police to Assist BPS Preparations for Bermuda’s First Pride Parade

The Commissioner of Police has revealed that two of his most experienced officers will attend Brighton’s Pride Parade in the UK this weekend.

Regarded as one of the world’s biggest celebration events for LGBTQ communities, Superintendent Sean Field-Lament and Sergeant Brian MacNab will meet colleagues from Sussex Police to assist the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) in planning for Bermuda’s first Pride Parade at the end of August.

The officers will also attend the event to speak with organisers and attendees to see first-hand how the Brighton event is run as well as get feedback on how Sussex Police work with their LGBTQ communities.

Commissioner of Police, Stephen Corbishley said: “Superintendent Field-Lament is the Gold Commander for Bermuda’s Pride Parade assisted by Sergeant MacNab as his tactical advisor.

This is the first such parade in Bermuda and the indication is that there will be an extremely large public turnout in celebration, including overseas attendees, with potentially some small numbers who may also attend to express their objections.

Therefore, taking that potential scenario into consideration, I am keen that the Gold Commander is supported by seeing best practice in the UK to ensure that Bermuda Pride takes place without incident and those who wish to celebrate can do so and enjoy the day.”

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
