Commissioner's New Year's Safety Message

Commissioner of Police Mr. Stephen Corbishley - Over the last 72 hours we have seen an increase in tensions between gangs on the island. This came to a head with the murder of Ronniko Burchall on Saturday morning.

At present a 31 year old man has been arrested in connection with this matter and a full investigation has commenced by the Serious Crime Unit.

Over the next few days the public can expect to see heightened levels of policing activity throughout the island, and there may be some inconvenience as officers engage the public.

There is a person of interest that the police are looking for, he is aware as well as his family and friends. We urge him to turn himself in.

In addition the BPS will be taking robust measures to ensure public safety at New Year’s Eve events and the football games across the island. The BPS will be liaising with the BFA around security at the game tomorrow in Somerset.

Members of the public can expect to see armed and unarmed police officers as they work to ensure the public’s safety during this period.

We wish to assure the community that we are working to bring the offenders to justice, and ask that anyone with any relevant information comes forward to assist.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
