The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 74 year old American cruise ship visitor Dolores Burke and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends.

It appears that Ms. Burke, from Florida, was snorkeling with a tour group near Hawkins Island around 11am Thursday, June 28th when she got into difficulty.

Despite lifesaving efforts on the water as she was transported by police vessel to shore – which continued as she was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance – Ms. Burke was later pronounced dead.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s loved ones at this difficult time.

There were no suspicious circumstances. However, an autopsy is anticipated.
