Seventh Road Fatality of 2016 [Updated]

Around 9am on Wednesday, July 6th police and other first responders attended a report of a serious road traffic collision that took place at the junction of Harrington Sound Road and Broken Hill Road in Smith’s parish.

It appears that a 65 year old male motorcyclist was traveling down Broken Hill Road when he collided with a trash truck that was traveling on Harrington Sound Road.

As a result the 65 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene by an on call physician.

The scene has been cordoned off and is being processed by the relevant BPS officers.

Police are appealing for witnesses to this fatal collision to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.

No further information regarding the deceased will be given until next of kin has been notified.

This marks the 7th road fatality for 2016.

Update: Police can confirm the death of 65 year old Calvin O’Mara who died as a result of injuries sustained in a collision that took place around 9am (Wednesday, July 6th) at the junction of Harrington Sound Road and Broken Hill Road in Smith’s Parish. 

It appears that the 65 year old male motorcyclist was traveling down Broken Hill Road when he collided with a trash truck that was traveling on Harrington Sound Road.

As a result, he was pronounced dead at 9:46am by an on call physician. A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to the family and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Calvin O’Mara is now underway.

Police are appealing for witnesses to this fatal collision to contact the Roads Policing Unit’s PC Shantia Furbert on 295-0011 and the Bermuda Police Service extends our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.


All incidents are under investigation.
