Acting Assistant Commissioner Sean Field-Lament - Early this morning, the Bermuda Police Service conducted multiple search warrants issued under the Misuse of Drugs Act around Beacon Hill Lane and Railway Trail in Sandys and Tele Lane in Warwick Parish. This resulted in the arrest of eight adult males and five adult females. This was as a result of a protracted transnational organized crime investigation involving several overseas partners into drug trafficking and money laundering.
During the searches a quantity of substances suspected to be controlled drugs were found along with drug paraphernalia, as well as three firearms and ammunition along with a large undetermined amount of cash.
Investigations are continuing and the arrested persons are expected to be brought before the courts.
The Bermuda Police Service would like to take this opportunity to apologize for any inconvenience the residents of the affected neighborhoods experienced during this morning’s police activity and the Community Action Teams in the near future will be communicating with neighborhood residents.
We continue to encourage anyone with information regarding the possession and sale of illegal drugs to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 or the independent and anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477. |
