Around 12:05pm on Tuesday, June 9th police officers responded to a reported robbery in progress at the Butterfield Bank branch in St. George's.
It appears that the suspect, described as a black male, approximately 5'10" tall of slim build wearing a red hooded top, black pants and white gloves, entered the bank brandishing what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money.
He then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.
There were no reported injuries; however apparently a female senior citizen who was in the bank at the time was taken to the hospital via ambulance following the incident for medical assessment after apparently experiencing an 'overcoming.'
Police are currently searching the surrounding area for the offender and any witnesses, area residents or persons with relevant information should contact the Southside Police Station on telephone number 293-2222 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477 at the earliest opportunity.
In addition, there is presently an unauthorized release that shows CCTV footage from the bank robbery that took place today at Butterfield Bank in the Old Town of St. George and the bank is investigating the origin of the breach.
