Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police James Howard – Good afternoon members of the media. In a few moments I will ask Acting Detective Chief Inspector Dave Greenidge to give you an update in relation to the investigation of a shooting that injured a man in the Cove Valley area of St. David’s.
He is currently detained at the hospital receiving treatment for his injuries. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening.
The Bermuda Police Service is keenly aware that the community has enjoyed almost seven months with no shooting deaths or injuries until recently.
One week ago today Erin Richardson was shot and killed near his home in Southampton and then early this morning a man was shot and injured in St. David’s. It is therefore understandable that the community would be worried.
I can only reiterate that the information they provide is essential to our investigation and the advice if you know something, say something can only help to make Bermuda safer.
The detectives are keeping an open mind into this investigation as it moves forward. At this stage it does not appear to be linked to the other incident and there is no evidence to support that it is as a result of one gang targeting another.
To the St. David’s community, over the next few days you will see an influx of uniformed officers; don’t be alarmed, they are here to assist in the door to door enquiries and to provide relevant information to the community.
And hopefully they will obtain information from the community in relation to any suspicious activity they may have seen over the last day or so. At this stage I will hand over to Acting Detective Chief Inspector Greenidge who will give an update on the investigation.
