The Bermuda Police Service is proud to host the 2013 Association of Caribbean Commissioners of Police (ACCP) Conference, which will be held at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess from Monday April 29th to Thursday May 2nd. This is the 28th annual conference of the ACCP and the theme is “Police and Public Partnerships: linking prevention, intervention and enforcement strategies to tackle gang and youth violence.”
The keynote speaker is Professor David Kennedy of John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York City. Professor Kennedy is the author of the book “Don’t Shoot,” in which he describes the Boston project, often referred to as “Operation Ceasefire,” to combat gang-related violence.
Commissioner of Police in Bermuda, Mr. Michael DeSilva, said “The theme of this conference is about bringing the entire community together to tackle guns and gangs from every angle. Law enforcement can only do so much, and most of our work comes after extensive damage has already been done. Professor Kennedy’s address promises to provide real examples of how other agencies can engage the problem across the wide range of social, political and economic factors.”
The conference will be opened at 9:00 am on Monday by the Governor, Mr. George Fergusson, and other dignitaries including the Premier, Mr. Craig Cannonier, Minister of Public Safety, Mr. Michael Dunkley, and the President of the ACCP, Mr. Ellison Greenslade who is also the Commissioner of the Royal Bahamas Police Force. |
