The Bermuda Police Service would like to acknowledge the sentence meted out by the Supreme Court today, in respect of Anwar Muhammad who was previously convicted of Attempted Murder & Firearms offences.
The sentence of 25 years (15 years and 10 years respectively, to run consecutively) reflects the serious nature of the gang violence that has been plaguing the Island for the past 3 years.
Cases involving gang violence in the upper courts are currently experiencing an approximate conviction rate of 75%, which speaks to the quality of the prosecuting team in the office of the DPP, the nature of the evidence presented, the willingness of witnesses to come forward and the investigative ability of our officers generally. |
