Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva [photo] has been awarded the Colonial Police Medal (CPM) for Meritorious Service in the 2011 Queen’s Birthday Honours. Commissioner DeSilva, a Bermudian, joined the Bermuda Police Service as a Police Cadet in 1985 and worked his way through the ranks to become Commissioner of the Bermuda Police Service on Wednesday, December 16th 2009.
In addition, fellow Bermudians former Assistant Commissioner of Police Carlton Adams [photo] and former Reserve Police Commandant Eugene Vickers [photo] were both honoured as Members of the British Empire (MBE). Mr. Adams was recognized for his services to the Bermuda Police Service and to the community in Bermuda while Mr. Vickers was recognized for his services to the community, particularly to the youth in Bermuda as Vice President of the Community Education Advisory Council, Bermuda.
