Between 10:30pm and 11:45pm on Monday, March 14th 2011 Police received several reports of robberies and attempted robberies having taken place in the Devonshire, Pembroke and Warwick areas. The victims of these offences were motorcycle riders and the suspects were also on a motorcycle. During the incidents one of the suspects brandished what appeared to be a firearm.
The suspects are described as two young black men believed to be in their 20s; one brown skinned the other of darker complexion, both wearing dark coloured clothing and helmets with visors traveling on a white motorcycle. Two men were arrested shortly afterwards in connection with these occurrences and have been assisting investigators with their inquiries.
Around 11pm on Tuesday March 15th 2011 police received a report of a further robbery in similar circumstances which occurred in Paget. Shortly afterwards police officers observed persons fitting the description of the suspects and pursued them. After a high speed chase the offending cycle was lost in the Devonshire area. Check points were put in place leading to the recovery of what is believed to be an imitation firearm and the arrest of three persons who are assisting police with their inquiries.
It is too early to confirm any links between the robberies on Monday the 14th and the robbery on Tuesday the 15th but we are considering this possibility. Police are working closely with the victims to build a comprehensive picture of events.
Officers investigating these crimes are continuing to appeal for anyone with any information about these incidents to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011 or the independent, confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477. |
