The Bermuda Police Service can confirm the arrest of a 30 year old Warwick resident by U.S. Customs Border Patrol on his arrival at the Miami International Airport on 12th February, 2011. He was in transit to Bermuda from Panama at the time of his arrest and was found to have approximately 1 kilo of the controlled drug cocaine in his possession which was concealed in a laptop computer. He is currently being held in custody by U.S. Authorities pending court proceedings. The Bermuda Police Service Drugs Unit and H.M. Customs Bermuda are monitoring the progress of this investigation and are in liaison with our law enforcement partners at U.S. Customs Border Patrol and Homeland Security Investigations.
Our partnership with these overseas law enforcement agencies and others has contributed, and are expected to continue to lead to the successful interdiction of illicit drugs overseas as well as in Bermuda. This will have the effect of reducing their availability and the potential for public harm. |
