24 year old Kenneth Tucker-Thompson appeared in Magistrates’ Court on Monday, January 17th 2011 and pled guilty to four charges.

• Violently Resisting Arrest.
• Possession of Cannabis in an increased penalty zone.
• Possession of Cannabis Resin with intent to supply in an increased penalty zone.
• Possession of Ecstasy (MDMA) with intent to supply.

Mr. Thompson was sentenced as follows:

• Violently Resisting Arrest = $1,000 fine (3 months imprisonment in default).
• Possession of Cannabis in an increased penalty zone = $1,000 fine + $1,000 fine for being in an increased penalty zone (6 months imprisonment in default).
• Possession of Cannabis Resin with intent to supply in an increased penalty zone = 12 months imprisonment + $30,000 fine (12 months imprisonment in default) + 12 months imprisonment for being in an increased penalty zone.
• Possession of Ecstasy (MDMA) with intent to supply = 12 months imprisonment + $30,000 fine (12 months imprisonment in default) consecutive to all other sentences.

The ruling means that in total, 24 year old Kenneth Tucker-Thompson must serve 3 years imprisonment and pay a $63,000 fine, or face an additional 2 years imprisonment in default of payment.

This result once again demonstrates the Bermuda Police Service’s commitment to arresting offenders and placing them before the court as well as the resolve of the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to prosecute those offenders to the fullest extent of the law.
