Policing for New Year's Eve

Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police Martin Weekes & Superintendent James Howard - This year we are pleased to report that the Christmas period passed with few incidents of violence and we wish to thank the public for their support. The Bermuda Police Service, assisted by the Bermuda Reserve Police, deployed extra crime prevention patrols throughout the long holiday weekend and whilst there were some incidents of public order they were swiftly and robustly dealt with. Significant attention was also focused on Bermuda's roads during the Christmas weekend to make Bermuda safer. A total of eleven persons were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving during the period.

Going forward into the New Year the Bermuda Police Service wishes to advise the public that we, again supported by the Bermuda Reserve Police, will continue to show a strong, highly visible police presence throughout the long New Year's weekend with particular attention to the New Year's festivities on Friday night and the football games around the island.

Our officers will maintain a strong police presence to deter offenders from spoiling the festivities and will respond very quickly to any emergency. We urge the public to please do your part to by letting us know if you see offences being committed or any other suspicious activity.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
