The Bermuda Police Service Serious Crime Unit is actively seeking witnesses to a firearm incident that occurred at 7.40pm on Sunday 1st August at the shallow water jetty next to the Boaz Island Service Station in Somerset. It is believed that a firearm was discharged at the victim a 31 year old male; thankfully he did not receive any injuries but was clearly shaken by the ordeal. The victim was sat astride a jet ski in the waters next to the jetty and managed to make off following the attack. The offenders described as below also made off on a blue motorcycle, and possibly a grey Honda Scoopy -
- Two black males wearing dark coloured helmets with tinted visors, both traveling on a blue motorcycle (registration # unknown)
- Subjects were wearing light coloured jeans pants; one had on a red shirt
- A third person may have been involved. This subject is described as a black male wearing a white sleeveless vest and traveling on a grey motorcycle resembling an old Honda Scoopy.
Police are studying CCTV footage obtained from the scene, have obtained witness statements and are continuing to progress their investigation.
Assistant Commissioner of Police David Mirfield said: “We are aware that there were a number of people in the area at the time of the shooting and would urge them to come forward. We have had some very positive support in recent months from witnesses who have taken what is often a very difficult step in talking to the police; however we will always ensure that their own safety and well being is paramount and will do everything in our power not to jeopardize that. If anyone is unsure, frightened or vulnerable, but believes that they have information on this, or indeed any other firearms incident they must come forward and talk to the police in confidence; there will be no pressure to do anything that they are not comfortable with, and we will explain what we can provide.
The arrests and convictions over this year have come about by a combination of things but include both witness testimony and forensic analysis. Our job as investigators is to piece this all together and formalize a case to take to the DPP. Information from witnesses no matter how irrelevant it may appear may just be the piece of the jigsaw needed, we just need that information.”
Any witnesses or anyone with any information regarding this matter is encouraged to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 299-8115 or the independent confidential Crime Stoppers Bermuda hotline on 800-8477. |
