Superintendent Antoine Daniels, Officer In Charge of the Serious Crime Division - The Bermuda Police Service would like to provide a brief update regarding the shooting of a 27 year old man around 4am on Saturday 27th March 2010 on Mission Lane, Pembroke.
The victim remains in hospital in stable condition and although his injuries are described as serious they do not appear to be life threatening.
Police can confirm that the victim hired a taxi from outside of a St. George’s nightclub about 3am Saturday morning which conveyed him to Mission Lane, Pembroke. There were also other persons inside the taxi during the journey that investigators are interested in speaking with.
The investigation team is currently being led by Detective Inspector Michael Redfern who is being supported by a number of detectives from the Serious Crime Unit.
Police have made two arrests thus far; both men aged 18 and 23 reside in Pembroke Parish and remain in custody to date.
Since Wednesday 17th March 2010, the Bermuda Police Service can confirm 6 confirmed shooting incidents, one of these incidents tragically resulting in the death of James Lawes and the injury of two others on Friday 19th March 2010 and of course the incident I am reporting on today also resulted in a victim being injured. This takes the firearms incidents to date to more than 40.
