From Monday, September 21st to Sunday, September 27th Police conducted high visibility patrols around the island, particularly over the weekend when there were several public events taking place.

On Sunday afternoon as a result of specific information received regarding the potential for violence at or around the Charity Cup football matches, members of the Police Support Unit conducted stop and search checks of vehicles along Mullet Bay Road in St. George’s.

63 individuals were stopped or searched, with 14 individuals arrested for outstanding warrants and drug offences.

During an approximately two hour period on Wednesday, September 23rd, Police issued a total of 74 tickets:

  • 53 for failure to wear a seatbelt
  • 3 for no driver’s license
  • 10 for having an unfastened helmet
  • 6 for disobeying a traffic sign
  • 2 for carrying a load in an unlawful manner

There were also several seizures of quantities of controlled drugs in various locations around the island where there were no suspects.

In addition the Roads Policing Unit was on mobile patrol monitoring the island’s roads with the assistance of Bermuda Reserve Police personnel. On Saturday night alone over 120 tickets were issued for speeding on North Shore Road. The highest speed was 115 km/h followed by 105 km/h; with the lowest speed recorded 75 km/h. There were four arrests made.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to thank those members of the community who assist our officers to do their jobs more effectively by providing critical information, thus allowing illegal activities to be dealt with according to the law while strengthening the partnership between the community and the Police.
