Cup Match Press Conference

Chief Inspector Tracy Adams - The Cup Match period is one of the busiest policing periods in Bermuda. This year Cup Match is being held at the St. George’s Cricket Club. The Bermuda Police Service has prepared a contingency plan to ensure that the Cup Match period is safe for all residents and visitors alike.

We are advising the public that there will be a very heavy Police presence on the streets, waters and at the game.

We will be paying particular attention to the following:

  • Impaired driving offences on the roads and the waters.
  • Speeding / dangerous driving on the roads.
  • Speeding and dangerous operation of vessels on the waters, including Jet Ski operators.
  • Anti-social and offensive behavior.
  • Possession of blade articles and offensive weapons.

We are working with the St. George’s Cricket Club to ensure illegal and offensive weapons are not carried into the St. George’s Cricket club premises.

We are reminding the public that it is illegal to carry a bladed article longer then three inches. If in doubt leave the article at home.

We intend to deal vigorously with any anti-social behavior both inside and outside of the grounds. We will ensure that all persons attending Cup Match will have a safe and enjoyable time.

We are urging the community to be considerate and conform to the laws of Bermuda. The public should be aware that the Bermuda Police Service intends to use the provisions of Section 315 F of the Criminal Code to allow random searches of persons in prescribed areas for prohibited weapons and bladed articles.

There will be extra patrols throughout the day and night to police the various functions, concerts and events that are occurring on the island. Officers from the Roads Policing Unit, Marine Unit, and the Police Support Units will be available to deal with any incidents.

There will be armed Police patrols at the match and throughout the Island to deal with any situation that may require an armed Police response.

We wish everyone an enjoyable and safe holiday whether you are at home, at the game, on the water or however you chose to spend your holiday.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
