The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is aware of an e-mail titled ‘Email Alert - pass it on’ currently circulating throughout the island warning of a computer hacker. The e-mail reads –
“URGENT - IF A PERSON CALLED SIMON ASHTON CONTACTS YOU THROUGH EMAIL DON'T ACCEPT HIM. DELETE HIM BECAUSE HE IS A HACKER!!
TELL EVERYONE ON YOUR LIST BECAUSE IF SOMEBODY ON YOUR LIST ADDS HIM THEN YOU WILL GET HIM ON YOUR LIST. HE WILL FIGURE OUT YOUR ID COMPUTER ADDRESS, SO COPY AND PASTE THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE EVEN IF YOU DON'T CARE FOR THEM,
AND FAST, BECAUSE IF HE HACKS THEIR EMAIL HE HACKS YOUR MAIL TOO!!!!!...”
This e-mail was sent out by an officer who contravened the BPS e-mail policy as this message was not an official Bermuda Police Service communiqué and we apologize for any confusion that this e-mail may have caused. The Service is encouraging members of the public who may receive this e-mail to disregard the email without passing it on to anyone else. |
