Sudden Death

Around 11:45am Tuesday, Police received a report of the sudden death of 78 year old Patrick James Mayers of Smith’s parish. It appears that sometime after 7am on Sunday, Mr. Mayers went for his usual pedal cycle ride around the Harrington Sound Road area. However, apparently around 8am he was discovered near the junction of South Road and Tuckers Town Road in a semi-conscious state by two passing motorists in a truck who stopped to assist. It appeared that the 78 year old Smith’s parish man had fallen off his pedal cycle. He was taken to KEMH by his wife around 8:30am where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Mr. Mayers was subsequently pronounced dead at 10:45am on Tuesday by an on call physician at the hospital.

Police are interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen Mr. Mayers pedal cycling around Harrington Sound Road, South Road or Tuckers Town Road between 7am and 8am Sunday. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact PC Roger Fox at the Southside Police Station on 293-2222. The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
