Fatal RTC

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 39 year old Martha Hoopes of Illinois, USA. Mrs. Hoopes was traveling east on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Lighthouse Hill (entrance of Fairmont Southampton) with her 9 year old daughter as a pillion passenger when a collision took place between her livery cycle and a van traveling in a westerly direction. This resulted in her daughter receiving injuries and Mrs. Hoopes being rendered unconscious at the scene. The Illinois woman was rushed to KEMH via ambulance but was subsequently pronounced dead. Her daughter was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The Bermuda Police Service extends its sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact PC Shantia Furbert at the Roads Policing Unit on 295-0011.

This marks the 3rd road fatality for 2008.


All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
