Counterfeit Currency

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of an increased amount of forged BDA $100 notes in circulation on the island. The serial numbers of the counterfeit currency are: C/I 417086 & D/I 038471. The Fraud Unit of the Bermuda Police Service is advising all businesses, banks and other institutions or individuals receiving cash to be vigilant, and examine all monies for the distinguishing features of genuine currency - such as the tuna fish watermark, the silver strip and the silver ship. Lottery Scam

Several people have contacted the Fraud Unit this week regarding a fax they have received, purportedly from "Euro Millions." This scam tells the recipient that they have won monies in a European Lottery. In order to claim the monies, the fax requests personal information, including bank name; account number; and names of relatives. Please be advised that this scheme is not genuine. The Bermuda Police Service advises members of the public to view any such requests for bank information as suspicious, and not to respond to the request in any format.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
