P.C. Shandora Burrows is the Bermuda Police Service (BPS), Community Policing Division (CPD), Staff Person, 2020! Announcing the selection, Superintendent Na’imah Astwood, the officer in charge of the CPD said: “PC Burrows has been unwavering in the performance of her duties and is repeatedly hailed by her colleagues, for her positive approach to her role and dedication to rise to many challenges. Her positive ‘can do’ attitude, has been recognized as she consistently takes the extra step, ultimately exuding the ethos of ‘First Door Right Door!’ After reading of her accomplishments, we feel she is more than deserving of being selected as the CPD Staff Person of the year 2020.” “First Door Right Door” is the concept implemented by Supt. Astwood  to ensure members of the public, as well as our colleagues, receive the assistance they require and/or are put on the path to receiving that assistance at the very first point of contact with the organisation.



Two Men Arrested & Replica Firearm Seized in Pembroke

A replica firearm was seized and two males, aged forty-nine and forty-five years old arrested, after police received reports of two males wearing dark clothing and masks on a motorcycle near Cavendish Car Park on Cavendish Road, Pembroke. The passenger was carrying what appeared to be a firearm. Armed officers responded to the incident which occurred around 3:00 p.m. today, Sunday 24th January, 2021.



Motorcyclist Arrested for Various Offences After Two Separate Collisions

Around 3:15 p.m. yesterday, Tuesday 19th January, 2021, an eighteen-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired as well for possession of a controlled drug with intent to supply, after being involved in two separate road traffic collisions. The first incident took place on Mullet Bay Road just west of Wellington Lane in St. George. A driver travelling west on Mullet Bay Road stopped to allow an oversized vehicle headed in the opposite direction to get by.



Child Pornography Offences Reminder: Law, Punishments & How to Report

Members of the public are reminded that any sexual images of individuals who are under the age of consent, are classified as child abusive images or what is commonly known as, child pornography. Anyone in possession of such videos or images or who forwards them on in any format, is committing offenses under the criminal code.



Residents Reminded to be Wary of Phishing Scams

The Bermuda Police Service wishes to once again advise the public not to provide personal details in response to requests sent via e-mail from unknown entities.  These requests are usually linked to advisories informing the recipient that they have come into significant sums of money and all that is required for them to collect those funds is to provide personal information. As is the case with the two most recent scam e-mails being circulated locally. Superintendent Sean Field-Lament said: “The purpose of these scams is usually identity theft. The advice is to not respond to these e-mails and immediately delete them.



911 Temporarily Out of Service [Update: 911 Now Operational]

Second Road Fatality for 2021: 35-Year-Old O’Dean Phillips

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 35-year-old O’Dean Phillips. Mr. Phillips passed away following a serious single road traffic collision involving a motorcycle, just east of the Terceira’s Service Station on the North Shore Road, Devonshire, shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Monday 11th January, 2021. The Bermuda Police Service extends sincere condolences to the family of Mr. Phillips.



Second Road Fatality for 2021

Monday, January 11,2021

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. today, Monday 11th January, 2021, police responded to a report of a serious single vehicle collision involving a motorcycle, just west of Terceira’s Service Station on the North Shore Road, Devonshire. Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive male with a severe leg injury lying on the roadway. The officers immediately commenced C.P.R. on the victim, a thirty-five-year-old Smith’s Parish resident, until the arrival of EMTs a short time after. He was subsequently transported via ambulance, to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where sadly, he succumbed to his injuries.



Investigation Underway Into Reported Indecent Exposure Incident

The Bermuda Police Service is investigating a report of indecent exposure which reportedly took place today, Thursday 7th January, 2021, in the area of Cavendish Road, Pembroke. A female informed police that as she ran along Cavendish Road near Lane Hill, shortly after 6:00 a.m. today, she observed a light skinned male, wearing a fluorescent jacket standing underneath a light pole near Lane Hill. As she approached the male reportedly exposed himself to her.



First Road Fatality for 2021: 28-Year-Old Oronde Wilson Jr.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 28-year-old Oronde Wilson Jr. Mr. Wilson was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding crashed on Middle Road in Southampton near the junction with Lighthouse Road, in the vicinity of Jews Bay, around 8:55am Monday, January 4th. Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel responded to the scene.



Two Burglary Suspects Arrested

Shortly before 10:45 a.m. today, Monday 4th January, 2021, police received a 911 call, reporting a burglary in progress at a Train Track Lane, Paget, residence.  The caller stated one of the suspects, who was confronted by an occupant of that residence, was armed with a knife.  However, there were no reported injuries.



First Road Fatality for 2021

At 8:55am on Monday, 4th January 2021 police attended the scene of a single vehicle road traffic collision involving a motorcycle which occurred on Middle Road, Southampton near Jews Bay. On arrival an unconscious 28-year-old male was found lying in the road. CPR was commenced and the male rider was conveyed by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where regrettably he succumbed to his injuries.



Investigation Into Social Event That Breached COVID-19 Regulations

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS) has received reports of a social event attended by a significant number of individuals and which is said to have taken place at a location in Pembroke Parish last evening. Attendees were also reportedly not wearing masks nor practicing social distancing. These are all offences under the current COVID-19 regulations.



New Year’s Holiday Policing

With the Christmas holiday weekend marred by the shooting of a man on Court Street, in which, thankfully, there was no loss of life or serious injury, the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) is now shifting focus to the upcoming New Year’s holiday weekend, planning police operations to Make Bermuda Safer. To that end Martin Weekes, Assistant Commissioner of Police, advised the public of some of the policing measures being implemented over the next few days, as we enter into 2021.

Dear Community, Well, it’s Christmas! Even though it’s been a year the likes of which we would all agree hasn’t been seen before, nor would we want to experience again. However, it is the time of year when I hope all of us can spend some time with family, friends and loved ones, to enjoy some merriment and festive cheer. I do recognise however that some of us may find this season difficult for any number of reasons. Many partner organisations, including the Bermuda Police Service (BPS), are there to help, so if anyone does feel vulnerable they can pick up the phone to speak with someone who cares and can help.



Driver Rescued After Her Car Goes Overboard at Night

Shortly before 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday 22nd December, 2020, police received a report from on-duty Coast Guard personnel that a motorcar had crashed through the wooden barriers across from the West End Sailboat Club and landed in the sea. Upon arrival, three officers entered the water and moved to extract the driver, a twenty-eight-year old female from the vehicle.



Sexually Explicit Viral Video Under Investigation by VPU

The Bermuda Police Service (BPS), is aware of a video being circulated on social media depicting sexually explicit scenes, which appears to have been recorded on one of Bermuda’s beaches – although this has not been confirmed. Section 197 of the Criminal Code Act 1907 states: “Any person who wilfully and without lawful excuse does any indecent act in any public place is guilty of a summary offence and is liable to imprisonment for five years.”



Curfew Breaches

Despite an advisory put out to the public that the Bermuda Police Service (BPS), was beginning curfew checks as of last Friday, the 18th of December, a total of ten individuals were this past weekend found to be in breach of curfew regulations. One person was found to be in breach on two occasions. The curfew checks were carried out at different locations across the island as part of efforts recently announced by Government to help stop the spread of the coronavirus.



Residents Warned About Another Social Media Scam Involving Gift Cards

Residents are advised to ignore a social media scam offering a $30,000 grant that requires payment of certain “fees” to receive the supposed funding. One incident of this nature was reported to police over the weekend, where an unsuspecting resident was contacted on Facebook messenger by an unknown person offering a $30,000 grant cheque.
