Response to Documents Leaked to the Media Regarding BHC Inquiry

The Bermuda Police Service is disappointed with the decision of any unethical Police officer who might leak any information to the press as there are a set of procedures and protocols in place to address any concerns that they might have.
Furthermore, the legislated responsibility of the Bermuda Police Service is to carry out investigations into alleged wrong doings and it is the decision of the Department of Public Prosecutions whether or not to prosecute.
Runaway Horse & Carriage

Around 2:45pm today, Police received a report of a horse and carriage on the loose on Front Street in the City of Hamilton. It appears that the horse somehow became agitated and broke free from its handler, taking the empty carriage with it as it galloped west on Front Street. The horse & carriage were eventually restrained by a member of the public on Pitts Bay Road. No one was injured. Police attended the scene and assisted with corralling the horse and returning it to its handler.

The Bermuda Police Service is advising the public that there will be a Maritime Security Exercise in the Town of St. George tomorrow, Wednesday, May 16, from 9am until 12 noon. No traffic will be allowed in the area of King's Square during that time and Police will be diverting traffic away from the area.

Police are appealing for anyone who was at Southside Raceway on Sunday and saw what happened when Marvin Robinson lost control of his motorcycle or anyone who may have video footage of the incident to contact PC Sean Mullan on 515-9999.

It appears that around 11am today, a single vehicle collision occurred at the Southside Raceway during a practice lap. It appears that the victim, a 34 year old Warwick man, lost control of the 600cc motorcycle he was riding while attempting to negotiate a corner and collided with a fence. He was rushed to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of his injuries; however, he was subsequently pronounced dead. No further information will be released until the next of kin has been notified. Inquiries into this incident are underway by the Traffic Enforcement Unit.

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for the public's assistance in locating 14 year old Dishon Burgess of Southampton. He has been missing since Wednesday, March 14, 2007 and is described as brown skinned; approximately 6' tall, of slim to medium build with a scar in his left eyebrow and full lips. However, it is apparent that Burgess has visited his Southampton residence several times since being reported missing, while the home was unoccupied.

The Bermuda Police Service is appealing for a member of the public who came to the assistance of an officer during the arrest of a 28 year old Southampton man around 1:30pm today on South Road in Paget near the junction with Cobbs Hill Road. The Southampton man was arrested for obstruction and was initially stopped by Police on mobile patrol for traffic offences. He was subsequently taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 77 year old Gladwin Johnston of Warwick. At 12:30pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2007 Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of South Road and Upland Lane in Warwick involving a motorcycle and a pedestrian. It appears that around 12:20pm that day the victim attempted to walk across South Road when a motorcycle, which was traveling west on South Road, collided with him. The rider of the motorcycle, a 36 year old Warwick man, was not injured.

The Juvenile & Domestic Crime Unit is currently investigating an incident that occurred around 3:45pm Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at a bus stop near the Southampton Glebe Primary School on Middle Road in Southampton, where an unknown man touched a 9 year old girl's leg as she waited for the bus. The suspect then fled the scene on foot. We are interested in speaking with a light skinned female believed to be in her late twenties or early thirties, who was out exercising in the area at the time.

In light of the 4 fatal road traffic collisions so far this year, the Bermuda Police Service continues to urge motorists to slow down and drive with care, caution and courtesy on our roads. One road death a year is one too many. The four lives lost so far this year are a tragic reminder that Bermuda's roads can be dangerous and unforgiving if sensible driving practices are not adhered to. This is especially true for motorcycle riders.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 29 year old David Roberts of Devonshire who died as a result of a road traffic collision at 6:20am today on Parsons Road in Pembroke, adjacent to the Pembroke Rest Home. It appears that the 29 year old man was traveling east on Parsons Road when he lost control of his motorcycle, hit the nearside curb and landed in the road. This resulted in the Devonshire man being rushed to KEMH where he was later pronounced dead by an on call physician. Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen the collision to please contact PC Asaph Rawlins at the Traffic Enforcement Unit on 299-4265 or 515-9999.

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 30 year old Dennis Soares of Paget who died as a result of a serious road traffic collision that occurred around 6:45pm Friday on Middle Road in Devonshire near the junction with Tee Street. It appears that the 30 year old Paget man was riding his motorcycle east on Middle Road when he lost control and collided with a vehicle traveling west. This resulted in Mr. Soares being catapulted into the air and then landing under a car that was also traveling in a westerly direction. The 30 year old Paget man was rushed to KEMH where he was later pronounced dead by an on call physician.

It appears that a 30 year old Paget man was riding his motorcycle east on Middle Road when he lost control and collided with a vehicle traveling west. This resulted in the Paget man being catapulted into the air and then landing under a car that was also traveling in a westerly direction. The 30 year old Paget man was rushed to KEMH where he was later pronounced dead by an on call physician. No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.

The Bermuda Police Service is asking for the public's assistance in locating 17 year old Ashley Simons of Sandy's parish. She was last seen over the weekend in the City of Hamilton. She is described as 5'4" tall, dark skinned of slim build with a short hair style.

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire near the junction with Barkers Hill that occurred around 10:30pm Friday, February 2, 2007 and claimed the life of 41 year old Alan Oliver of Hamilton parish. We are especially interested in speaking with anyone who may have been in the area around the time of the collision. Around 10:30pm on Friday, Police attended a reported serious single vehicle road traffic collision on North Shore Road in Devonshire, approximately 100 metres east of Barkers Hill. It appears that a 41 year old Hamilton parish man was traveling east on North Shore Road when he lost control of his motorcycle and collided with a pole on the near side of the road. This resulted in the Hamilton parish man being rushed to KEMH where he was later pronounced dead by an on call physician at 10:55pm.

The Bermuda Police Service Fraud Unit would like to remind all businesses and persons conducting financial transactions for debit & credit cards to be vigilant in order to prevent the perpetration of crime.
A number of cases have been reported to Police in recent weeks whereby persons presented credit or debit cards to businesses that were either stolen, or that they were not authorized to use. Significant sums of money have been unlawfully obtained as a result.
